Mary Spires BAC Sampled.jpg (59551 bytes)    After Breast Cancer 18 years ago, I began a great journey of recovery by studying and painting  pure transparent watercolors.  I feel that the more experiences you have in life, the more you are able to enjoy your day to day living. I find inspiration within all artistic mediums; cultivating and attempting to define my creative spirit!
I attended The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Columbus College of Art and Design, plus workshops with national instructors.  I have been teaching for the past 12 years. I am the author of two Watercolor books, numerous magazine articles, plus an Internet Web Site featuring Transparent Watercolors.  I travel teach internationally within the Society of Decorative Painters (SDP); and have taught at both their National and Regional Conventions during the past 17 years. I currently hold a charter Teacher of Decorative Art (TDA) Certification from the SDP; and various offices and chairs, within regional art organizations in both Ohio, and Florida.
During research, I discovered how our day to day lives are connected to symbolism and the spirit world.  I recently started working with beads, and gemstones, to create wearable art.  My jewelry is designed though of grouping the stones, crystals, and beads to create visual harmony.  Not only are these earth elements blossoms of the mineralogical portion of the earth; the recognition of the beauty and loving energies of these forms can greatly enhance ones personal development.  They are the myriad fireworks of both creativity and individual universal energies.  Man has been using crystals, stones, and beads since the beginning of civilization to enhance their world.  Whether it was used in ceremonies, or to enhance ones personal well being, precious stones are a part of our day to day lives.  With each piece of my jewelry, I included a summary assigned to these ancient symbols.
Mary, and her husband Dick, resides at their home in Lancaster, OH
, and “winter” in Largo, Florida.
