Phil
Walker - Ceramicist
My interest in sculpture began with a class in mask making. A workshop in
Mexico, making and firing, started me on my journey to create art. This exposure
to the work of artists 3-4 centuries old was an introduction to ancient cultures
in this hemisphere.
I was blessed with two mentors in sculpture: Anthony Davenport at Ohio
University, Lancaster, Ohio; and the Mexican teacher who exposed me to the
ancient civilization of Oaxaca, Mexico.
To create and sculpt the
objects and ideas of our everyday world using shapes, textures, and hues
continues to inspire my art. Stoneware art has survived for
centuries.
