Monarch Gallery Artist - Vivian Rowntree
Work in painting, oils, pastels, drawing, and printmaking.
It is the beauty of creation that I find in nature that inspires me most, especially the play of light and color on ordinary objects, whether landscapes or still life.
I am primarily a painter in oils, but also work in water media, pastels, and printmaking. I have two degrees, have done graduate work, and have taken additional classes and workshops in such topics as experimental water media painting, photography and dark room techniques, the art of hand made books, and landscape painting. I have been a member of the Columbus Art League, Artreach of Columbus, the OEA, the NEA, and the NAEA. I am now a member of the Lancaster Art Guild, the Ohio Plein Air Society (OPAS), and am a founding member of the Monarch Gallery in Lancaster, Ohio. I have been in a number of art shows, which include: 1. The Columbus Art League Fall show, 1984 2. A One Woman Show - Mickey’s Deli in Lancaster, Ohio, 1986 3. Cross-Currents, Artists Who Teach - Garrett Gallery, Lancaster, OH, 1997 7. Gifts From the Earth National Fine Art and Craft Competition - the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Hamilton, Ohio, 2003 8. The Ohio Plein Air Society Show - the Springfield Museum of Art, Springfield, Ohio, Autumn of 2007, a juried competition.
Awards: Jennings Scholar in 1984. Best Show of the Year Award from the Fairfield County Arts Council in 1986. Award of Merit in the Lancaster Art Guild Spring Show, 2008. My artwork is in several private collections in the eastern United States.
